Every year I watch the Academy awards and listen to all the speeches about not giving up on your dreams. No matter how many obstacles are in your way—whether it’s time, money, people, or self-doubt—just keep on believing! The words would shoot sparks of creative motivation through my body and I’d be inspired to start a new project or continue with a current one with fresh eyes. While I used to think this message was just for those trying to make it in Hollywood, I now know different.
After years of pouring my heart, soul, and love for rhyming into manuscripts for a children’s book series, I’m thrilled to say it’s finally coming to life. It’s been a slow, exhilarating, sometimes frustrating, but worthy process, and I can’t wait to share it all with the world.
Ironically, the series of stories is about world travel, something near and dear to my heart. So it’s only fitting that I start to share some clips from the first book now—fresh off the high of the Oscars, a night when so many dreams come true.
Obviously I’d like to thank the Illustrator who’s miraculously matched my vision for the characters and international theme. Alistar Illustration specializes in some of the most marvelous maps I’ve ever seen, and I’m so grateful some of them will be seen in these books.
Many thanks also go out to family and friends who enthusiastically nod their heads in support and excitement right along with me when I talk about this series. If it wasn’t for their encouragement and the nagging voice in my head to keep going, I would have given up on this series a long time ago.
So here it is, the first look at the first page of The Adventures of Peri and Bea, coming to a bookshelf near you in the very near future.
